Personal Statement
At age 7, I joined my local summer swim club, where both my siblings swam, to make new friends and start a new sport. It didn’t take long for my summer hobby to become the sport I fell in love with. Soon after I started swimming in the summer, I started year-round swimming with the Jersey Wahoos. I was chosen for the Jersey Wahoos National Squad where I practice 20 hours a week. I’ve seen great improvement in both my technique and times, especially over the past 2-3 years. I also swim for the varsity team at Eastern Regional High School since freshman year and earned scholar athlete (highest weighted GPA) for the 2020-2021 season.
Outside of swimming, I earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal in July of 2021. To do so, I completed over 400 hours of community service by helping out at a family shelter with Volunteers of America, helping the elderly connect online through Zoom during the pandemic, and assisting patrons at the Waterford Township Public Library. For my 200 hours of personal development, I explored other interests such as STEM with Lockheed Martin with 3D printers and electrical engineering. Also, I planned a 5 day exploration exploring southern New Jersey. Overall, I believe that both my work in the pool and in the earning of my Congressional Award shows my dedication to not only achieving my goals but also to helping those who surround me. With these qualities, I hope to continue my love of swimming by competing in college while also being a great teammate both in and out of the pool.
