Like many other girls, I have always loved the water. My mom’s always love to say that I must be a mermaid and perhaps this is somewhat true. My earliest recollection of swimming occurred well before my first lessons. It happened when I was baby at the beach with my parents. I always remembered running towards the water. The waves would crash and I would laugh at them. This intense attraction lead me to my swim career.
At the age of two since I had no fear of the water, I was enrolled by my parents at a local swim school. With each new stage, I developed the necessary skills to water safety and confidence. I craved for more learning and opportunities to swim. So by the age of 4, I joined my first competitive swim team. It is there I swam my first few laps against kids in similar ages or older. I loved it but still I wanted more! That summer I joined a swim team for my town. I was only five swimming 25 yards of freestyle and created the best summer memories. Since improvement determined my success, I needed to refine my strokes. That’s when I joined Long Island Swim School. At the swim school, I refined my stroke with each passing level until eventually I was asked to swim on there team. Eight years later, I have swam on Long Island Aquatic Club. Swimming on this club, has afford me many opportunities to push myself to the limit and to achieve my goal of becoming a good swimmer. The skills taught at my club team helps me conquer the physical and mental challenges of both the sport as well as in life.
Starting on a club team so young, in 7th grade I was successfully able to make my school districts varsity team. I was the only seventh grader in my entire middle school who made the districts varsity swim team. In eight grade, I made my first county cut time. This would not have been possible without being consistent in my efforts.
Although I have many goals to achieve, I know that when facing a challenge, it is easy to quit. But in order to achieve something, persistence and commitment are essential. By being consistent in my efforts, I know success will be likely.
