My name is Abriella Taylor-Carter and I am a senior at Charles D Owen High school in Black Mountain, NC. I have been swimming since I started walking, and my collegiate goals are to attend a University where I can continue to swim and eventually achieve my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
I am a hard-working student, supportive teammate, and I strive to be a better me every day, which is what I hope you are looking for. I think I have become different from other recruits in character, athletics, and academics by taking personal responsibility every day. Personal responsibility was something I learned later on in life due to a difficult early home life. It was part of what helped me cope and has kept me moving forward. I already knew how to do it in swimming. I just did not know what it was called until later on in life. An example of this would be swimming. Swimming is all about beating your own time not beating other people and when you realize that, you take personal responsibility for your performance. Learning personal responsibility also taught me to keep my grades up and not procrastinate, because when you are asked to do something you don't wait till the last minute. Things have gone better for me since I learned this lesson, and I want to move forward in learning more things like this along my journey.
