Personal Statement
I’ve been on a swim team ever since I was little. At 4 years old I started my first swim lessons as a “shrimper” on a summer league team. I didn’t quite like it. The water was too cold for me. My mom pushed me to do it though, and I’m so glad she did. Now it’s my favorite sport. I find it fun and challenging. The cold water no longer bothers me too much. I started high school at Gray Stone Day School and I was so excited to join the swim team. It was my favorite part of the winter and I made some of my closest friends freshman year. I joined again Sophomore year, but in the middle of that year I had to transfer schools. After the new year I started at Concord First Assembly. They had no swim team. I was pretty sad about it, but then I realized I could start one. So the second half of my sophomore year and large parts of my summer were dedicated to figuring out how it could work. My junior year rolled around, and I presented my idea to my athletic director. I decided to do a trial run. A one woman swim team. To see how it could work. He approved it and I coached myself and made it to states my Junior year. Now I am trying to grow the swim team for the upcoming school year and my senior year. I still do summer league every year and divide my time between being a counselor and practicing for summer swim meets.
