Throughout my high school career so far, there have been many high and low moments. During my freshman year, I learned a very valuable lesson that I still abide by as a junior. My high school swimming career started on a high note. I broke several school records and was featured in a local newspaper article. At the end-of-season league championship meet however, reality hit. While swimming in the top heat of the 500 freestyle, I was filled with incredible self-doubt. I was surrounded by many amazing swimmers that I had looked up to over the years. I cracked under the pressure and ended up placing last in my heat.
From this humbling experience, I learned to stay focused and despite the competition, never give up. During the off season, I started training harder. I worked with my coaches on my stroke technique and tempo. Throughout my sophomore year, I started seeing the results of my training. At the league championships, I was able to not only drop time, but to also win both of my events.
I continue to focus daily on improving my technique, endurance, and strength. I am constantly readjusting my goals, taking pride in my achievements yet continuing to strive for new heights.
