Hi! My name is Ella Calder and I swim for the Mission Viejo Nadadores (California) and Spring Grove High School in Pennsylvania. I recently moved to MVN from York, PA to train over the summer. My best events are any freestyle events 500 and up, and the 100 fly.
Besides swimming for two different teams, I play in the school's band (8 years), jazz band (4 years), and marching band (4 years). I can play tuba, trombone, euphonium, drums, and piano. I have been a part of Girl Scouts for 10 years. I have earned my silver award and I am working towards gold. I volunteer weekly for Heavenly Paws cat shelter. I am involved in my school's Climate Change Club (treasurer). My junior year I was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. In the past, I have done competitive indoor drumline and cross country, but I am not currently involved.
As of my junior year, I have taken two English honors, one math honors, one history honors, three science honors, and three AP courses. I get decent grades, but I know I can achieve better. I study every night in order to achieve my best and get help when I need it.
For swimming, I make sure I try to even out my high school and USA practices. I go to most of my morning and afternoon practices, for both teams, and work my hardest. My freshman year, I placed 6th overall in the 500 freestyle and was the first alternate at districts. Although I did not swim at districts, I still went to cheered on my teammates. In sophomore year I placed 8th in the 500 free at counties after recovering from flu. This year, I plan to work my hardest, even with COVID and health restrictions.
