Swimming in a small, Texas town has given me an opportunity to grow as a person and expand socially. Being one of the only two swimmers on my team to attend the state championship meet allowed me to experience being independent and different levels of competitiveness around the state. I am lucky to have two teams of teammates and coaches who encourage me with their relate-ability. When I moved to a bigger school the summer of freshman year, I encountered a group of swimmers that encouraged each other in order to make themselves and others around them better. I strive to be that person every day, both in and out of the pool.
I always find myself in positions of leadership around the pool. Being one of the oldest females on both teams, I constantly battle to set an encouraging example for the younger girls. College would allow me to grow socially and use my platform to encourage young female athletes. BY swimming in college, a goal of mine is to have a close relationship with my coach. If there is something I can excel at, I want to. Even though I have always been a big fish in a small pond, my goals never stray from the next level.
