Personal Statement
I first joined a swim team as a 6 year old. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it but it was the activity that our community did in the summers. I loved it! The thrill of racing to achieve a best time, winning your heat even if you weren't in the fastest heat, and the fun in the sun with my classmates and neighbors has turned me into an avid swimmer! This love for swimming has made me committed to the sport and has inspired in me a desire to continue to swim in college and beyond. In fact, the love of swimming drove me to become Coach on my community team for the last 2 years as well as begin teaching swim lessons in the Summer for LetSwim, Inc. I know that swimming in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life and I am very excited about this opportunity!
I am a very competitive swimmer who hates to lose. I am constantly working on perfecting my technique to ensure that I am getting the times that go along with my time in the water. This work ethic has paid off with consistent time drops in all of my events and I am confident there are still more drops to come. I am a team leader on both my High School team as Co-Captain of the girls team as well as being a leader with my work ethic on my year round team. I try to be a role model for other swimmers and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working swimmers in the water and out and will be one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find.
I am as dedicated in the classroom as I am in the water. I study very hard and maintain a GPA above 4.0. I push myself to take courses that are challenging while balancing my swimming life and social life. In addition to Coaching and teaching swim, I am an active participant on the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, as well as the Co-Editor of the Sports page for my High School Newspaper. Recently I was asked to become a contributing writer for the Sports Department of a local on-line newspaper. I will begin writing articles as soon as the swim Championship season is over.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and in the pool. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers and make my Coaches and parents proud. I am very excited to hear from you!
