Dear coaches,
I am Malak Aly, a sophomore in Harmony science academy High school, in Houston Texas. I am excited for the opportunity to join this tennis program and get the opportunity to play college tennis one day. My goal is to play competitive college tennis, ITF tournaments, earn a full-ride scholarship, and continue growing as both a student-athlete and a person. I've been dedicated to tennis for the past eight years-it's more than a sport to me, it's my life.
My whole life I have been playing tennis in Egypt, where I trained and competed for many years. I always loved the game deeply, but it was hard to find opportunities to truly prove myself. The turning point came when I moved to the United States with my family in 2023. For the first time, I saw the possibilities that could come from hard work, discipline, and belief in myself. This year I motivated myself more than anytime in 8 years to focus even more- to one day compete at Wimbledon and meet my Idol Aryna Sabalenka, whose aggressive and powerful style i try to reflect in my own game.
My journey hasn't been easy. A few years ago, I suffered a serious ACL injury that required knee surgery and kept me off court for nearly a year. It was one of the hardest times in my life, but it taught me resilience, patience, and mental toughness- all of which I honestly try to bring with me every time I step on court.
Since moving to Texas, I've won tennis State championship two years in a row- In my freshman year and sophomore year, won couple of first place tournaments, second place tournaments, and 3rd place tournaments. Which made me proud of myself since I moved to America. I'm currently a sophomore in high school and am working hard to compete in more UTR and USTA tournaments at higher levels to improve my national ranking. I hope to compete in ITF events in the near future. Tennis in the U.S has been a challenge- the level, system, and structure are all different than in Egypt, but made me believe that I can make it one day at the top.
Beyond tennis, I'm a multi-sport athlete who played gymnastics for 5 years, was the team captain for basketball in Egypt, was a ballerina when I was 5 years old and went on tv with my team to dance ballet, was in the JV team for volleyball last year as a freshman, adores kickboxing, water polo and dance- all of which have shaped my athleticism and teamwork. Academically, I maintain a 4.0 GPA with straight A's and maximum 2 B+, and i was honored to be chosen as a student Ambassador at my school for my leadership, confidence, and willingness to help others.
What sets me apart is my international background, my perseverance through injury, and my relentless drive to reach the next level. I believe I can bring not only talent but also heart and leadership to your program and any team.
Thank you for considering my application. I would be honored to represent your team and grow under your guidance, and i apologize if my statement was too long but i had to tell my story.
