Personal Statement

NCAA ID 1705794130

I have been interested in running ever since I was five years old, as our family has an annual tradition of running a two-mile race together. Every year, there are about 15 Harmans in the race, ages 5-90, and that was my first taste of racing. You can see the competitiveness in my 85-year-old grandma and 90-year-old grandpa, and it's inspiring. I haven't looked back since that race at five years old and every year, my competitiveness continues to grow and I continue to push myself to be the best I can be. One of my biggest accomplishments so far in my high school career is making it to Sections as a Varsity athlete as a Freshman. This year, Junior Year, and last year, I qualified for Masters Finals in the 800 and completed my season with a 6th place overall in CIF-SJS/All Divisions, with a PR of 2:16.30. I competed in my first half marathon last summer with a time of 1:49:56.8, and plan to run it again this year. These successes and getting the chance to compete with the top athletes have driven me to increase my overall strength which compliments my naturally strong kick, and I'm excited to continue pushing myself as far as I can go.

Academically, my goals in high school and college are to graduate with honors at the top of my class.  This year, I was chosen as the only Junior Girl Representative for Girls' State, and I will be experiencing that during the last week of June.  Following that, I will be attending the Nike Track & Field Camp of Champions at Stanford.  My coach has honored me with: 2016 Cross Country Runner of the Year, 2017 Cross Country Runner of the Year, 2017 Varsity Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and 2018 Varsity Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The arch on the entryway to our high school states "Excellence in Athletics and Academics." I'm driven by both my high school and internally to be successful in both areas and, as Team Captain, to inspire my teammates to do the same.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
