Personal Statement
Hello!
My name is Josephine "Josie" Coffey and I am a Jumper on the Bear Creek High School Track and Field Team, located in Lakewood, Colorado. This is now my second year participating on the Track & Field Team and a few of my coaches are:
- Head Coach: Scott Schnell – 28 years experience in Track and Field.
- Jumps Coach: Steve Grievel – Over 50 years of experience in Track and Field and a member of the Colorado Sports High School Hall of Fame as both an Athlete as well as a Coach.
- Personal Coach: Matt Hemingway – Former U.S. Olympian and Silver Medalist in the High Jump at the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece.
- Personal Coach: Amy Backel - Former University of Oklahoma athlete and throws coach (Javelin, discus).
Academically:
My current GPA is a 3.902 using a 4.0 scale. I also have an A.L.P. (Advanced Learning Plan), am respectful, a logical thinker and a creative problem solver. If you were to speak with my teachers they would tell you that I am serious and dedicated about my work. On a side not, my first two years of High School were spent studying at Compass Montessori, located in Golden, Colorado and my final two years at Bear Creek High School.
Athletically:
I am 17 years old, 5’11” tall and weigh 150 pounds. In high school I play four different sports: Tackle Football, Basketball, Lacrosse and Track & Field. I have a team-first mentality, want to be coached, love film study and am generally described as a “Sports Geek” by my friends and family. Furthermore, I am not afraid to put the work in!
Personal:
Simply put, I am a different kind-of-girl! I am honest, intrinsically motivated and singularly focused. I set goals with the complete mindset of achieving these goals. In eighth grade I won the first Chess Tournament I ever entered. Also, at the age of 10 (being a die-hard San Diego…uh, scratch that, Los Angeles Charger fan) I started the goal of saving $3,000 by doing chores around my house as well as for neighbors and was able to purchase three plane tickets from Denver to San Diego, three tickets to the Chargers vs. Chiefs game on December 29, 2013 (which we won and made the playoffs!) and three tickets to Legoland (why not!) for myself, my mother and my brother. Side note: my father wasn’t invited because he is a Broncos fan!
Thank you for taking a few minutes and reading my statement and I hope to keep in touch as I advance throughout my High School career.
Sincerely,
Josie Coffey
