My name is Kylie HiIliard and I am a senior at Glastonbury High School. I run cross country as well as distance/mid-distance during the track seasons. I was captain of my cross country team both sophomore and junior year, as well as indoor track sophomore year. I have been to New Englands 3 times, and have been a varsity athlete since cross country my freshman year.
I started running the summer before freshman year, and once the season began, I rapidly improved. At the start of my freshman cross country season, my 1600 time was 6:08. By the end of outdoor track, I had managed to cut it down to 5:24.21. I also ran the 3200 and went from 12:31.59 to 11:58.07.
Sophomore year, I was captain of both my cross country and indoor track teams. I worked hard to further improve my times and I was able to break 20:00 on our State Course, Wickham Park. I ran 19:45.00 at the New England’s Championships, which were held in Connecticut that year. In indoor, I cut down my times even further, my 1600 is 5:16.28, my one mile is 5:15.34, and my 3200 is 11:28.41. Sadly, we weren’t able to have our outdoor season due to COVID-19 beginning, so I was only able to race for two seasons.
Junior year was extremely challenging for me, as it was during Covid and it was my first time dealing with an injury. I had shin problems and a foot scare during cross country, missing a good portion of the season due to concerns. I also ended up taking the indoor season off, before returning for spring. Since then, I have been working hard to get back to my sophomore times.
Currently, my goals are to get back the speed and stamina that I had, as well as cut down my times even further. I would also like to make it to nationals, whether it be with my team, or individually.
