I did not always want to be a track athlete. For all of my middle school career and half of my high school career, I was a cheerleader. I became a varsity cheerleader my sohpomore year of high school. During my freshman year, I would do jumping events in outdoor track when cheerleading was off season because I was interested in the sport. By the end of my sophomore year, I fell in love with track and field and was torn between the two sports. I found a new passion for track after long jumping 16' 1.50" and high jumping 4'8" which brought me to States for both events andearned my a Varsity letter.
After consulting my teammates, friends, family, and making a pros/cons chart, I came to a decision that I would become 100% dedicated to track and field. Although it was a hard decision to make, it was a choice that I'm proud I made.
My junior year of high school I participated in Indoor and Outdoor Track. During the Indoor season, I broke the long jump record previously held in 1997 with a jump of 16' 5.25". That season I won the Coach's Award and a Varsity Letter. I participated in the Nike National meet where I matched my PR. I also made it to State Opens.
During the Outdoor season of my junior year I did not excel like I had desired because I sprained my knee at the start of the season. Although I was out for the majoirty of the season, I was still able to jump a season best of 16' 3". My first year trying the triple jump, I made it to states. I placed 10th at the State Championships with a triple jump of 32'.25"; 5 inches off my PR. I placed 19th in the state for the long jump. I earned a Varsity Bar.
My senior year of Indoor Track and Field I was elected co-captain of the Girls' Indoor Track team. I broke my previous long jump school record with a jump of 16' 7.75". I also broke the school triple jump record with 33'6.5". I attended Nike Nationals once again where I PR'd with 17'.75". I earned a Captain's letter and a Varsity bar that season. I had the most most successful season I could ever wish wish for and I anticipate the same for my Outdoor season.
I would like to attend a school in Maryland (because that's where the majority of my family lives) or in its' surrounding states such as PA, NJ, DE, VA, WV. I do not want to go to college in the Northeast. I am looking for a very large university with a strong jumping program. I would like to attend a school that matches or is around my SAT range. Attending a HBCU is an option I'm definitely open to. I would like to be a part of a D1 or D2 team, but I am open to D3 schools as well. I would like to major in Business Marketing and minor in Journalism. I would love to join a team that is very competitive and I hope that the skills I have acquired in these past 4 years will benefit the team.
