My name is Simone Bessong and I am a junior at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, Delaware. I aspire to be the best I can be academically, athletically, spiritually, and mentally. Academically, I am taking the accelerated S.T.E.M. program at my school and have already achieved special recognition and academic excellence. Spiritually, I believe my faith in God makes me stronger. Mentally, I contribute to my community through volunteer work. Athletically, I aspire to compete at the elite level in track. I run the 200 and 400. I started running cross country when I was 6 years old. I started with running 800 meters in cross country and fell in love with it along with the community that goes with it. I participated in an elementary running club that entered cross country meets and I did well at it, medaling at AAU events each year. As I got older, the distances got longer but I still enjoyed it when I was in elementary and middle school. I began participating in track in the 7th grade but due to the pandemic in 2020, I did not get to compete until the 8th grade but I was hooked. I found my passion in running the 200 and 400 but it was the teambuilding and comradery that drew me into the sport. I also found consistent success in my inaugural and subsequent years of running these events that I hope to continue and desire to do so in college while getting my degree at the same time. I believe I have what it takes to be a winning athlete on your team.
