My name is Valeria Castillo, I am a student athlete, starting senior year at Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida. My dad used to run as a daily exercise and watching him run caught my attention. One day I decided to try it, and ever since, running took a big part of my life. Even though I was always given the option to choose any activity/sport to enroll in, I felt a connection to running that made this sport stand out to me. Many of my personality traits were developed along my running career. I find myself to be very coachable and I always accept any advice that will help me become a better runner as well as a better person. I have grown to become a very consistent, determined, hardworking runner, and teammate that does her best to improve every season.
As determined and discipline as I am in my sport, I also am in my academic life. I've quickly learned to balance my academic activities with my running career. I stay focused and motivated to be able to succeed academically and athletically. At school, I'm part of the IB program and part of the staff for yearbook.
Throughout middle school and into high school I've received various awards and recognitions in both track and cross country. I run several events, such as 400,800,1600,4x800, and 4x400. This will be my 7th year running track. I am expecting a lot of improvement for this upcoming track season. Since I was young, my goal has always been to continue running at a college level, and as a result, I will perform to the best of my abilities to make this dream a reality.
