Hi! My name is Claire Wheelwright, and I look forward to having a successful collegiate career in track/field and cross country. I feel my best when I am running! I am a driven athlete, who is willing to work hard in order to achieve any set goal.
I love being a part of a team because it builds many life skills needed for the future. I have been involved in many groups and clubs during my freshman year of high school, including Student Council, Key Club, Giant Pride Club, Spanish Club and Concert Band. I am also a member of the Varsity Dance Team at CHS, and I take private dance lessons at Encore Performing Arts Studio four days a week. I am a fluent trumpet and piano player; I have been actively involved in band since 6th grade and have taken piano lessons since I was in Kindergarten. Being a part of a variety of extracurricular activities is important to me because it keeps me active, well rounded, strengthens my time management skills and allows me to demonstrate my strong leadership qualities. I was captain of our cross country and track teams throughout middle school and was awarded MVP for the Varsity Cross Country team at CHS as a freshman for the 2017 season. I take pride in the fact that I am consistently recognized by my current and past coaches (XC, track and dance) as being the hardest worker in their program. To me, the key to success is all about effort and attitude!
Academics is a top priority in my household, and I set very high standards for myself in everything I do. I am in the Honors Academic program at CHS and work extremely hard to be at the top of my class. I have been taught from an early age that academics will always come before sports. That is why I keep my grades top notch so I can have the privilege to participate in the sports I love. I’m looking forward to becoming a part of a collegiate program that has both amazing academic and athletic opportunities. I hope to talk with you soon!
