My name is Emerson Colins and I will be starting my Freshman year of high school at Lincoln-Way West High School in New Lenox, Illinois this fall. I have been a competitive gymnast since I was 9 years old. As a 7th grade student I tried out for my school's track team and found a talent for the sprinting events but more specifically the 100m hurdles. Running hurdles is my favorite event. In 7th grade I was 1st place in the Des Plaines Valley Conference for 100m hurdles. I was 1st place in the 100m hurdles at IESA Sectionals and I placed 6th in the IESA Class 2AA State Finals.
This past season as an 8th grader, I improved my 100m time tremendously and was placed onto the 4x100 relay team. We now have the Liberty Junior High School record with a time of 51.3 seconds, and I hold the school record for 100m hurdles with a time of 15.7 seconds. I placed 1st in both the Des Plaines Valley Conference and IESA Sectionals for the 100m hurdles and then 9th at the IESA Class 2AA State Finals. My 4x100 relay team, where I ran the 3rd leg, placed 8th at the State Finals.
At Lincoln-Way West, I will be participating on the Diving team, the Gymnastics team and Track team. I can't wait to see what I can accomplish during my high school experience!
My academic interests include animal science as I want to be a vet. I enjoy writing and science. I maintain mostly A's and will be taking a competitive class schedule of all honors courses and Spanish 2 as a Freshman.
My goal for college is to find a school that fits best academically and athletically so I can study what I love, animals, and continue to run as a collegiate athlete.
