Hi, my name is Amelia Hansen, Class of 2026 at Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park, KS.
I started running track in the summer going into my sophomore year of high school, and at the time, I was also a level 10 gymnast. Competing for the two sports was challenging, but I soon realized I had a new love, and I chose to dedicate my time and effort entirely to track. I retired from my gymnastics career of 13 years and was selected to run varsity for my High School.
Gymnastics taught me perseverance, life lessons, and how to deal with roadblocks in my career, thus shaping me as an athlete. I am very competitive and push myself to be the best I can be at every training session and meet. As a result, my times have consistently improved each season, and I achieved new PR's in most of my events this past year.
During my summer 2024 season, I challenged myself to branch out and try new events, and I'm glad I did because I discovered I'm stronger at more events than I thought. I have had measurable results in short sprints, long sprints, long jumps, high jumps, heptathlons, and pole vaults, making me a valuable team member. In addition to succeeding in athletics, I have risen to my academic challenges. I am an A-B student with a 3.7 GPA, have been a member of the AB honor roll for multiple semesters, and am in the Women for Leadership.
I am motivated, hard-working, and excited to continue my passion for track as part of a competitive team at a high academic school.
