Hi my name is Molly Horgan and I am from Massachusetts, and my story is actually kinda funny. I have always grown up playing sports like soccer, basketball and softball. In high school my freshman year I played varsity soccer, varsity basketball and varsity softball. After my freshman year I decided I didn't want to continue softball, so I switched to track my sophomore year. My sophomore year I did not throw the javilin at all. I was a runner and didn't really do many field events. Then this year's track season I decided to throw the jav as a joke and I killed it!! I had no form and no coaching at all but I somehow managed to throw it far. I would simply walk up to the line and throw it, I had no run up at all. I somehow made it to states with the qualifying throw of 90 ft. That is when I realized I probably should actually learn how to throw or this would be embarrassing. I had about a week to learn how to actually throw before the state meet. So I met up with one of my coach’s friend that also used to throw jav in high school and he taught me how to run and throw. We met only two times that week and that was the only coaching that I have had. I went to the states and threw, and wow did that run up help me. I threw 110 ft, which was 20 ft better than my old PR. I came into states ranked 18th and ended up placing 3rd. I went to All-States and continued to PR with a throw of 112.11 ft placing11th in the All-State as a junior. So I started the season off throwing around 60-70 ft my first few meets and continued to pr all the way to 112.11 ft by the end of the season. I know with coaching and some more practice I can easily shatter my PR next high school season in track. I hope to be throwing in the 130's by the end of next year's track season and ready to throw at the next level! Now that I am fully committed to throwing javelin and putting in the hard work to build muscle and practice throwing I have no doubt I will be throwing a lot farther next year.
