My name is Kyra Ceryanek and I'm a runner.
Ever since I was young, I have aspired to be a broadcast journalist. I've always loved English and presenting in front of my class. My end goal is to be on a major news station, write my own pieces, and travel the world, reporting on world news. I want to make a change in the way people negatively view the news. While I'm majoring in broadcast journalism, I intend to be involved with the college newspaper and radio station, and to seek out internships related to my field to obtain experience and gain exposure. While focusing on my academic goals, I desire to run on a competitive level. I've been a cross country runner since I was in sixth grade and I found my love for running track as well in my sophomore year of high school. I am a middle/long distance runner. My favorite event is running the 5k in cross country and the the two-mile in track. I run the one mile as well and I am working towards running in a 4 x 800 team this upcoming outdoor season. Before I focused all my energy on running, I was a lacrosse player as well as a varsity alpine ski racer. This year I have made the decision to run all three seasons.
I would make a good candidate for a coach's team because I am always positive and strive to help my teammates see the best in all situations, whether it was a good day, hard day, bad day, we finished on top, or came in last. When things don't go my way I try to learn from that and do things differently next time. I am a firm believer that the mind has a powerful influence over all outcomes, so I strive to see the positive in every situation. A positive influence on a team is essential to success, and I can be the positive influence that my team needs so that we can perform to the best of our abilities. I never waste a mistake, I learn from it.
I am different from other recruits in that my positive attitude makes me the team player I am. I know from experience that maintaining a positive attitude throughout any race situation will help my teammates achieve the same mindset. Being the positive person I am makes me an effective leader who helps my teammmates make the most out of every situation. Running is by far the most challenging sport I have competed in, both physically and mentally. As an athlete I know that even when you have the physical strength to achieve your goals, you can't achieve your goals without mental toughness . Mental strength is the testament of a true athlete and my positive mindset proves how I am different from other athletes. I have my own sources of strength; positivity and resilience.
