About 4 years ago, I moved from California to Massachusetts. At first, the never-ending New England winters and time away from my friends had the most significant impact on me, but that was about to change. During the winter of my freshman year, I decided that I would be quitting soccer for good. My family had planned a trip during the week of soccer tryouts, so indoor track seemed like the next best option. I was quickly drawn in by the natural camaraderie that my team provided and I wondered why I had ever settled for the past pessimistic atmosphere of soccer that had been handed to me. My optimism and simultaneously competitive spirit was relayed back to me like never before within my new team. Unfortunately, this past 2024 spring track season I got a little too enthusiastic about running and ended up with femoral pain syndrome. Throughout the summer and going into the fall 2024 season, I made injury-prevention a top priority, but still managed to end up back in PT. Going through this injury had taught me that there IS such thing as "too much running" and that rest days are just as important as work days. To keep myself busy during all the time I'd be away from running, I helped manage the Wellesley Girl's Indoor Track team and was apart of my school play, to funnel all my energy that I would happily use for running into a safer activity while I heal. As I continue to make baby steps towards being pain-free, I remind myself of my team, who inspires me to show up and bring an open-minded, supportive and dedicated energy every day. My team has helped me become who a truly am, the kind of driven, loving student athlete that you would want at your school.
Thank you for your consideration. - Sofia :)
