Personal Statement
Dear Coaches,
I have been running track since 7th grade. I knew I was fast at a young age. My dad and I used to race in the front yard and I would win every time. Running is my sense of release. In middle school I was urged to join the track team and I fell in love with the independent, but team oriented challenge every time i raced. I was trained as a short sprinter in middle school, but have recently been training for mid distance events at my high school. I currently run the 400m and 200m dashes. Switching from short sprints to mid-distance events has been a challenge for me. The last stretch of a 400 race is a new type of mental strength I have learned and am still learning to overcome. However, switching my events and training hard everyday has allowed me to master skills of time management, stay active, build strong relationships with my team mates, and build both my physical and mental strength for a lifetime.
On the track, I am a leader in all workouts and drills. As the coach of sprints, I always push myself as hard as I can in practice to provide a strong example to others. More importantly, I lead with a positive attitude, and motivate my teammates to be grateful for the time we spend together and the challenges we get to overcome. I love track because it allows me to release from the stresses of school, work, etc., and to push myself on a different level. Track is a beautiful, challenging sport because you learn to push yourself and overcome physical boundaries that lead to excellence. Not only does track allow me to be the best version of myself, track is an incredibly supportive sport as there are so many different runners and personalities that cheer you on.
Although I am very passionate about track, academics are, and always will be, my main focus. Within the top 10 in my class, I have a 3.99/4.00 GPA, plan on graduating with 5 AP classes, and have been enrolled in the most challenging classes available to me (Honors, dual classes, etc). Maintaining a strong academic profile is incredibly important to me because my dream is to go to college, major in Biological Sciences, attend medical school, and become a Dermatologist. The academic path i wish to follow will not be easy, that is why I immerse myself in as many extra-curricular activities as possible to prepare myself as a well-rounded student. I am the section leader in my school's marching band, concert band, and jazz band. I also participate not only in track, but volleyball as well. I enjoy being a part of Earth club, book club, the Student Leadership Team, and NHS at my school. I have completed over 150 hours of community service, altar serving, and I work at a neuropsychology practice over summer. As an active leader in my school, I always try to make my school environment a more welcoming place. In order to make a difference in my school, this past year i began a DECA club for all grades. This club has turned into the biggest extra-curricular club at my high school, and has brought so many different students from all grades together.
Above all else, I strive to become the greatest well-rounded, student-athlete I can be, by pushing myself further at the collegiate level, and acting as a positive role model to those around me.
