Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Ashlyn Smith and here are a few things about me. My coaches and family would most likely describe me as a leader. Anytime we do a workout or stretching routine with the team, I lead the exercises and keep everyone on task. When you're an underclassmen, it can be challenging to be a leader, but I have worked hard to gain respect from my teammates. I've always enjoyed a variety of sports, but I have connected most with running. To many people, I might seem like another runner, but I put in lots of effort towards my education and extracurriculars. I spend my time in class wisely to ensure that I am properly educated for my future. Even though I have not received the highest grades possible, I have learned a lot from my experience throughout my high school career. Although I spend most of my free time running and training, I always prioritize my education and make time for my work. I set goals for myself that will challenge me, even if I know it will be tough. I have many supportive friends and coaches pushing me and motivating me to become the best I possibly can be. I am looking forward to continuing my education and athletic career at a college that will surround me with other positive and hardworking people.
Some of my achievements are I have qualified for state individually and with my team two years in a row. I have medaled both of those years in the class 5 state race. Last year at state I placed 8th and this year I placed 20th. My freshman year I won districts and this year I placed 4th at districts. This year I qualified the for the Nike Regionals Championship race but ended up running the open race and got 2nd. I also placed 3rd in the Gans Creek Classic last year and placed 10th this year with a faster time.
