MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
Back in 2016 during my freshman year cross country season, I had no idea what to expect. At season opener, I placed 3rd place at a meet I had been very nervous about for weeks and I was very surprised at the result. Back in middle school, I excelled well in the mile and everyone noticed that quickly but I wasn’t into running and didn’t think seriously about continuing in high school. During my freshman year, I only ran 2 freshman races before being bumped up to varsity. I was extremely nervous about racing in the 5K but I was up for the challenge. My first ever 5K race, I placed 9th running a 20:11. My coaches, teammates and family were extremely proud in my success and that was when I began to get less nervous and more determined about my races. After finishing my freshman year breaking 20 minutes running 19:59 at state sectionals, I received both 3rd team all county and all league honors which was a great accomplishment for only a freshman. By my sophomore XC season, I ended up finishing with a 30 second pr running a 19:29 at Bergen Meet of Champs placing 11th which brought me down to 2nd team all county which was even better. My first indoor season during sophomore year was a great experience especially finishing running a 12:16 3200m and 5:54 1600m. By my outdoor season, at county relays, my 3200m time got to 12:05 and 1600m got down to 5:39.
My three seasons at Hackensack High School have been very successful and I have some big goals for my last three seasons, especially cross country. By the end of my 2019 cross country season, I want to definitely break 19 minutes and at least run anything faster than 18:50. If I stay on top of that goal, then I think that I can easily achieve it. I haven’t ran the 3200m in both indoor or outdoor since my sophomore season and don’t continue on running it since my main focus for track is just the 1600m. XC is my main focus and my best season and I just hope I am able to be able to bring my pr down by as much as I can before I graduate. My coaches have helped a lot with the great workouts that I’ve pushed through these past three years and my helping me achieve the goals and prs that I’ve been wanting to get.
