My name is Brooke Hoodja and I am senior at Manville High School in New Jersey. As a student, I am very well rounded and am involved in not only sports, but clubs as well, and hold multiple officer positions in these clubs. In the classroom I am an honors student who maintains As and Bs in honors and AP classes. All of these aspects contribute to who I am as a person and why I am a valuable candidate for a collegiate team. I am one of the few athletes in my school who are in the top 10% of my class and keep a very high GPA. These attributes set me apart from other student athletes who aspire to be on a collegiate track and field team because I keep my self well rounded while still staying successful in all that I do. For example, I am currently the President of the Class of 2019, as well as the Vice President of Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America, but I worked my way up in all these clubs since freshman year, which shows my commitment. I also take part in National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society since I keep my grades up very well. In my school I bring many different skills to the table and I believe that would be beneficial in college.
On the track I focus on javelin and hurdles, and frequently assist my team in short sprints and jumps. This past season I was elected as an eleventh grader to be the girls team Captain. Myself and the other captains took part in what is called the “leadership council,” which helps guide our team in decisions and solves any problems that are occurring. I was the only non-senior captain this year and I worked very hard to assist every girl on my team. Other than my work as a captain, this past season was also filled with great success and achievements. In the past my javelin skills were not great with only a PR of 57 feet, but this season after making it to sectionals I threw my PR of 90 feet and 6 inches and took fifth place which allowed me to go to groups. Overall, my track career has blossomed within the past couple of years due to my dedication to this sport. Most athletes don’t improve over 30 feet in one year, so I feel as though that is something that puts me above others looking to be collegiate athletes.
