When I was younger, I tried every sport available to me. Whether it was field hockey, softball, basketball, or soccer, I could never seem to find my niche (possibly due to lack of hand eye coordination) but none the less I was committed to find something I could excel at. Despite my lack of success in other sports, I needed to constantly be moving, so I would channel my energy in running, swimming, and surfing. These sports connected my mind and body and became a keystone in my development. Since surfing and swimming are only something I do for fun in the summers, I focused my energy on running.
In middle school, I joined track but never fully got to experience it due to Covid cutting it short. The following year I watched my brother run a cross country race and instantly fell in love with the sport and the idea of racing. I joined cross country and track the following year and I throughly enjoyed the independence of running and how it was up to yourself to push your limits. Not only that, but my teammates fully accepted and welcomed me making my freshman year of high school much less daunting. It turned out I was pretty fast and was immediately running with the top runners on the team and earned a varsity spot. Though I enjoyed distance, it wasn't until I ran the 400m for the first time when it finally clicked. I found myself excelling the most through sprinting. Running to me is part of my life now and am working hard to improve my times each season. I have been on the varsity team since Freshman year in both cross country and track and was named captain my junior year for both cross country and track. I love leading and helping my teammates help achieve their goals as well. I am a dedicated student taking AP and Honors classes and have been recommended by my teachers to take 4 more AP classes my senior year.
I would love to continue running, improving and competing in track in college.
