There are many interesting characteristics that I possess, but one that stands out is my determination. When I set my sights toward something, I make sure I do anything and everything possible in order to achieve my goals. For instance, I pulled my groin muscle at the end of the fall soccer season during my freshman year. I tried playing through the pain when basketball season started in the winter, but that just made it worse and led me to having to sit out more than half of the spring track season. After only being able to compete in two meets, I made it my mission to make up for it in the upcoming track season by training during the summer and in between sports seasons. My hard work paid off and the first meet of my sophomore year I went from running a mid to low 13 second 100 meter dash to a 12.7 second 100 meter dash.
Besides that huge personal best improvement, I accomplished many more things during that season. I got first place in my league meet for the 100 and second place forthe 200. After placing in the league meet, I advanced to the Bergen County Meet of Champions where I was the only sophomore to get into the finals for the 100 and ended up tying for second place. Another accomplishment after that was placing fourth in the 100 and sixth in the 200 at the state sectional meet. At the end of the season, I was recognized as the Athlete of the Year in the track program for my high school. And after all of that, I am still determined to become even better in order to advance and place at bigger meets.
Not only am I determined, but I am very versatile. I grew up playing many sports and have been told that I am naturally athletic, and have a talent. I’ve been playing competitive soccer and basketball for 7 years now, and have been on varsity for both sports since my freshman year. Although I will be ending my high school basketball career to join winter track, I still plan on playing soccer for the duration of my high school years.
Naturally, it is crucial for my academics to be up to par since my expectation is to be recruited, my cumulative GPA as of the end of junior year is 3.7. I’ve also received highest honors after my freshman year of high school. I excel in math and science, and am interested in majoring in the health science field in college.
I know the importance of being respectful and conducting myself in the proper manner. I am not only representing myself, but I am representing my family, my team, my coach and my school. I really look forward to the opportunity to grow and mature more as a person through my college experience.
