Hi,
My name is Julia Belle Reyfman and I am currently a Junior at Poly Prep Country Day in Brooklyn, New York. I have been throwing javelin since 8th grade. Prior to that, I did plenty of sports; I competed in rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, and tennis. I have also always considered myself a student-athlete. At around age 11, I was doing 20+ hours of gymnastics a week and I learned what it is like to have to balance school and sports at a very young age. While it is certainly a challenge, it is the most rewarding feeling when you are able to balance both. When I was 13 I discovered javelin throw and right away I fell in love with the sport. Even the first time I threw it I felt an adrenaline rush like no other. Since then I just wanted to keep throwing and throwing again, even throwing beanbags in my room before I go to bed. Not only do I love the sport, but I also love saying that I throw javelin. Throwing is not a sport you hear of every day and I am very proud to call it my own. It is my dream to pursue the sport I love through the rest of my high school career and college.
