All of my life, I have strived to be the best I can be, whether that is academically, on the track, in the pool, as a family member or friend, as an EMT, or in my clubs. I love to challenge myself, whether that is with an intensive course load, trying new things, or doing a difficult workout. I value hard work and dedication, and am constantly looking for ways to improve as not only an athlete, but also as a teammate and person.
After swimming competitively for 8 years for a year-round club team, and 2 years for my varsity high school team, I was devastated when I had to spend the majority of my Sophomore year out of the water due to a shoulder injury. In March of 2021, my surgeons, physical therapists, parents, and I made the decision to undergo reconstructive shoulder surgery. After going to physical therapy 3 times a week for 6 months, my shoulder was making great progress, but I was still not cleared to swim.
I decided to reframe this unfortunate setback into something positive: joining the WHS Cross Country team. Through Cross Country, I have challenged myself in new ways, met new people, and fallen in love with a sport I had only ever tried in the context of cross-training. Starting a new sport as a junior is no easy task, but my non-linear journey as an athlete has taught me countless important life lessons on resilience, hard work, grit, and being open to feedback. I know that I still have lots to learn as a runner, and that this is just the beginning of this chapter in my athletic career.
Although my athletic experience is such an important aspect of my personality, academics has always been my greatest priority, and will continue to be as I make a decision regarding college. I carry the same diligent and dedicated attitude I bring to athletics to all aspects of my life- maintaining a 4.63 GPA, taking all the Honors and AP classes offered at Weston High School, and being an active member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Beyond my driven attitude, I also care a lot about others, constantly looking for ways to support my teammates, family, friends, and community through a variety of clubs, and my EMT certification.
I am so excited to explore my options for college running, as not only will it allow me to challenge myself and expand my knowledge/passion for the sport, but it will also allow me to be a part of a supportive and enthusiastic community-something which I have valued my entire life as an athlete.
