My name is Maura Michalczyk, and I am a sophomore (class of 2024) at Dunmore High School in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. From the age of 8 to 16, I was a competitive gymnast which started my commitment to my athletics from a young age. I excelled in the sport, making my way up to level 9 and earning 5 Pennsylvania state champion titles in the process. Freshman year, I joined my school’s track team to contribute to my school. I ended up competing in the 100 meter hurdles and long jump freshman year and excelled at contributing points to my team. The fall of sophomore year, I started pole vaulting because of my background in gymnastics and immediately fell in love with it. Through out my sophomore season of track, I became a standout on my track team. I pushed my limits to break the school record in pole vault and win the Lackawanna league all star award for pole vault. I can’t wait to see what the rest of my pole vault career will bring to me!
Outside of track, I am very passionate about my education. I am currently ranked first in my class of 88 student through my hard work and determination. I have taken every AP class available to me so far and plan to continue to take advantage of these classes to broaden my knowledge. My favorite class is chemistry, and I plan on pursuing a career in engineering because of the limitless possibilities. In engineering, I will be able to challenge my abilities to expand my knowledge everyday which is something I strive for. The field of engineering intrigues me because of the opportunities to work on a variety of different projects to help people.
I believe that my motivation to succeed in every aspect of life will be a great addition to any team I am a part of. I have a very strong work ethic and a limitless drive to accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I can’t wait for the next two seasons to develop my skills as a pole vaulter and improve!
