2025 SpotlightI always had an interest in running. I was so eager to start my seventh grade year. When I took my first step on the track I knew that I wanted to be more than a runner, I wanted to be a leader. In my mind I thought that starting track and field would be more straightforward from what other athletes told me. They were wrong; I was committed to improving each day. The other athletes looked at me like I was insane for trying because I wanted to make progress to be skilled. I never thought that I would run the 400 meter dash. Today it is my main event that I train for. I always wanted to long jump, but when the coach put me into high jump I knew that I had to step up and take one for the team. I practiced and did drills to improve. At first I hated it, but now in my freshman year I love it. I look forward to continuing to run the 400 meter dash,do high jump as well as long jump, and the 4 by 400 or 800 meter run. I am determined to take leadership on and off the track. At practice and meets I am always willing to support my teammates as they are getting prepared and running their race. Not just in sports I am also taking leadership in school by helping my fellow classmates with their work. I have always been a B and A student in all my classes, even when they got more excelled, I knew that I just needed to put in extra work to keep the grades up.
