Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are to further develop my athletic and academic abilities in order to maximize my potential as a student-athlete. I wish to expand my skills on the track to not only improve as an individual, but to become a valuable asset to my team.
I believe I would be a good candidate for my team because I understand the value of hard work, and I have a genuine love for the sport. Ever since I was a kid I've always pushed myself to be the best in school, and once I set foot on the track in 7th grade, I knew I had the same drive there as well. As a result of my will to win early on, I've learned the true value of where hard work and dedication can take someone. As of the end of my sophomore year, I am academically first in my class and in my freshman year of track I broke my school's long and triple jump records as well as setting a district long jump record at 18' 2.5". It is the achievements like these that have given me an immense respect for working hard, as I am able to witness the effects of it firsthand. I also work well with others and am kind to both teammates and competition alike. I love to make other people laugh and I think that I could bring an air of humor and potentially boost the team's morale.
I would say I differ from other candidates in character because I possess a drive to always be the best which surpasses that of most others. Growing up my parents always encouraged me to be my best, whether it was sports, academics, or character, but the vast majority of my success has come from an internal initiative to win. I think I differ athletically because I am able to adapt and learn new skills well. For instance, I went into my freshman year with no triple jump experience. Throughout the course of the year, I was able to learn more and more of the proper technique each meet until I eventually won first place at the district meet and qualified for states.
When it comes to academics I am different from many others because of how much I value good grades. My grades have always been incredibly important to me and I am never complacent. I always look to earn my best results on any assignment and am always willing to put in the studying time. In addition to my studying efforts, I have a naturally good memory and have developed my own system to ensure I learn all necessary details in the most efficient way possible. All in all, I look forward to my college experiences, and I can't wait to see how significantly I will be able to advance as a student-athlete with the help of my future coaches and team.
