Personal Statement

I am a junior from Summerville, South Carolina and I compete in women's track for my high school!  Previously, I have done 9 years of competitive gymnastics, which included winning AAU All-around state champion in 2011 and also USAG vault state champion.  I fell in love with pole vault after a trip to Shealy's, and have pursued that love since freshman year.  I hope to do orthopedic surgery one day and am looking for a college to provide me with the proper education to proceed to an excellent medical school.

Update: 2014 was such an amazing season for me.  It was filled with PR's, new friends, and even a new coaching staff!  I was so proud of myself, and I was so blessed to have the opportunity to go to the State Championships.  I placed 6th, and I can't wait for my senior year!  Over the summer, I am competing with Mount Pleasant Track Club, which has 4 pole vault coaches (yay!)  I can't wait to improve myself this summer in preparation for next high school season.

  • Camp/Event
  • High Jump
  • 1/23/12 to 4/28/12
  • Coach Bellush taught me how to high jump and I began at heights of about 4'6. I improved throughout the season to clear 4'10 and miss 5'0 by a hair in my best meet. In practices, I have reached up to 5'1. I am also high jumping this year and plan on reaching and superceding my goal of 5'2.
  • Camp/Event
  • Pole Vault
  • 1/21/12 to 5/02/12
  • I attended a pole vault 101 class in January and learned how to properly hold the pole, run, and plant. Other than that, I had to teach myself how to vault and only achieved 8' the season. Only a week or two before region, I met Coach Frank who helped me learn to vault properly and safely and helped me reach heights up to 12' in practices. I will also pole vault this year and will strive to reach even higher heights.
  • Camp/Event
  • Triple Jump
  • 1/16/12 to 4/14/12
  • I had the top school length for triple jump of 30'10.5" but had to stop competing because the repetitive stress caused shin splints and problems with my hip flexors. I will also triple jump this year and plan to train smarter to avoid injury and reach success.
