Hi, I'm Lexi Weisbeck. Thank you for taking your time to read through my profile. I am a junior at Aberdeen Central High School in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I run 400s and 800s with our undefeated 4x800M relay team of two years in a row. I am 5'4" and 120 pounds.
I have been in track competitively since fifth grade. From fifth-seventh grade I participated in USATF and AAU track meets, and my 4x800 relay team placed top eight at nationals each year. In seventh grade I started running varsity for our high school and only ran 400s. At state I got 8th my seventh grade year in the 400, and in eighth grade I got 7th in that event. When I finally got to high school, I started to add 800s into the mix. My freshman year I got 7th in the open 800, 1st in the 4x800, and 2nd in the medley at the state meet. In 2012-2013, my sophomore year, at state I got 6th in the open 800, 1st in the 4x800, 2nd in the medley, and 3rd in the 4x400. Overall, we got first as a team that year at the state track meet for the first time ever and first at the ESD meet, which is our conference meet, for the first time in ten years. I start both the 4x4 and the 4x8, and in the medley I run the 400 leg. I also got to experience being on a state 5th place volleyball team in 2012. This year, 2013-2014, I participated in cross country instead of volleyball, which I think helped with my track season. This track season was tough; we found out I am anemic, so I was dealing with that for the first two months of the season. I fought through it, though, and set my PR in the 800 with a 2:19.97. Because I was dealing with this, I was placed in open 200s and put as first leg in the 4x100, 4x200 and still led off the 4x400 and 4x800 when I wasn't busy with open events.
I learned an amazing work ethic from my summer track coach when I was younger. I realized you have to push yourself everyday to become better even if you feel like you want to quit. My races definitely show how hard I work in practice every single day. I always try to match the pace our coach sets for us and push my teammates harder each time we're on the track together, and I do extra workouts on the weekends. I encourage everyone on the track and on the field because I know their potential, and I know what we can become as a team. During my off seasons, summer and winter, I try to lift every morning before school and run each day after school. I also do yoga almost every day.
My work ethic on the track also shows up in my school work. Every year I try to push myself harder with more challenging classes. I am ranked 15th out of 294 students in my class. This year I am only in Advanced and Honors classes for the most part. I took my ACT at the beginning of my sophomore year with only two math classes behind my belt just to see how I'd do and ended up with a 24. I retook my ACT in December of 2013 and received a 29. Sophomore year I was awarded Student of the Month for Art and Academic Achievement winner of the month because I was the highest rank out of all the students of the month for October. September of 2013 I received the honor of Student of the Month for Science class. I am a member Volunteer Connections at school, I tutor kids in math and science classes, and I volunteer for church activities. I'm also a member of Link Crew, which is a group of juniors and seniors that help introduce the freshmen to the school and other activities. This spring, I was given the honor of getting selected into our school's National Honor Society, and I received the Spirit of the Eagle award for track which is the highest award you can get in athletics at our school.
In my spare time which is pretty much just in the summer, I am usually at our cabin on the river, with my family, or with my friends. I enjoy playing piano, painting, drawing, and reading; I always have some kind of activity to keep me busy all day. In the summer I mow, do office work, and clean up on my dad's construction sites. I also enjoy surfing when I have the chance, biking, and fishing with my dad. All these activities help me with time management and work ethic because I am definitely a perfectionist.
I'm very excited that I might have the chance to become a college runner. It is something I have dreamed of ever since my first elementary school track and field day. I'm a hard-working, loyal, and determined individual when it comes to running on the track to writing in school.
