Ever since I can remember I’ve always wanted to be successful in everything I do. Whether it was in sports or in the classroom, I have always wanted to do my best.
During my time in high school I have been a valuable part of the cross country team, track team, and two years of the varsity basketball team. I currently serve as the team captain for both the cross country and track teams. I have played a major role on my track team by being a part of the school’s 4x800m relay and distance medley relay school record holders. In addition to the school records, I have qualified for the east Tennessee sectional track and field meet from 9th-11th grade individually, as well as apart of relay teams. In cross country I have been a varsity runner since my 10th grade year, made the all conference team 10th grade year, and was apart of the all county team 10th and 11th grade year. During my junior year of cross country I received the award for academic achievement for the girls team. During my freshman and sophomore year of basketball, I received the 3.5 GPA or higher award presented at awards day at school. Qualifying for these events, receiving these awards, and representing my school in a positive way has been a blessing to me. Each and every one of the things I listed has made a positive impact on my life and attitude.
However, sports are not the only thing I have put my time in at school. I am a member of the senior beta club since my sophomore year and a member of the junior beta club as a freshman. I try to keep myself busy with community service as well as staying involved in my church. I have been involved in my church’s youth group since the 7th grade and have dedicated a lot of my time to participating in mission trips to Clarksdale, MS for two years, and Gallup, NM once. By being eligible to go, I participated in mandatory classes every Wednesday night from January to the end of May. Mission trips have been a big part of my life because they have allowed me to reach out to others and be selfless. Being able to attend mission trips to places like New Mexico and Mississippi have allowed myself to appreciate what I have more. They have caused me to not take life for granted, because it could always be worse. I am an active member in my county’s Young Life program and once a week I attend club meetings plus discipleship on Friday mornings before school. By being a part of Young Life I have participated in the Young Life banquet where we serve other people in the community and teach them about the benefits of Young Life. Young Life has helped me want to reach out to those who do not normally seek the Lord. It has allowed me to meet new people and create relationships with others that I would not normally have.
Even though my involvement in sports and church is very important to me and take up a lot of my time, academics is just as important. I have very high, but reachable goals when it comes to my future. I’ve always enjoyed going to school and learning about new subjects. Some of the classes I thoroughly enjoyed were Honors Chemistry, Government, and history classes. I’ve always reached out to my teachers and built relationships with them because to me, that’s very important. Even though as of right now I do not know the career I want to pursue, I do know that I want to be successful and happy at whatever profession I chose to do. Putting in the effort and dedication to reach my goals is no question. I have always and will always work as hard as I can to achieve my goals.
