Hi, my name is Drew Warren and I would like to introduce myself. I am a 17 year old senior and I go to Clyde High School. I run cross country and track, and I participate in Youth, Student Council, BPA, PALS, and community problem solving. I played basketball my seventh grade through sophomore year until I had to have patella tendonosis surgery. Because of that knee surgery I missed out on cross country and basketball my Junior year but was able to make it back seven months later for track season. Having knee surgery did set me back a lot more than I thought it would but I ended up with my best 800 time of 2:18 just seven months after my surgery. Coming back was very hard and every workout made me stronger both mentally and physically. It taught me that nothing comes easy in life. Success is achieved through failure and I was going to have to work extremely hard to get back to where I was. All of that hard work did pay off and I was able to have my best season yet.
Starting in seventh grade I ran the 400, 4x100 relay, & 4x400 relay but then my sophomore year I tried running the 800 for the very first time. I was able to make it to the state meet and place 7th with a time of 2:20 and then made it back again this year placing 8th with a time of 2:19. It wasn't my best race, but I was proud of how much I had overcome in just seven months. I wasn't so sure after surgery how my season would go. I also ran the 400 and the 4x400 relay my junior year and had a PR of 1:00 but unfortunately I wasn't able to make it out of regionals with that time. Since I missed out on cross country I didn't get to better my two mile time but my sophomore year I ran a 12:30.3 and the state cross country meet. That wasn't my best overall time but that is also when my knee troubles were at its worst. I was having knee problems and was struggling, but I feel that I still pushed and worked as hard as I could given the circumstance I was in . I will improve that time tremendously this year with a lot of hard work and determination.
I will work extremely hard this year and get all of my times down. I dedicate myself to these two sports and I give everything I have in me. I'm very passionate about running and it is a huge part of my life. My mother was a collegiate track runner and I know this is also something that I want to pursue like she did. I think that being apart of a college program would be a great way to help me set and achieve new goals. I see college running as a way to use four years of my life to dedicate myself and focus more on running. I want to challenge myself and see what all I can achieve by myself and as a team.
