I am a senior at Frisco Heritage High School, finally concluding my high school experience in less than a year's time. In that time I have obtained the title of co-captain of the Colorguard, completed a year of independent study and mentorship on a topic of choice, and developed my time management skills with the many sports under my belt.
With my six years of training in shot put and discus (dating back to the beginning of 7th grade and summers in between), I feel a strong foundation and plentiful growth has made itself present through the numbers. But, on any team, communication and competition are key (especially due to this being an individual sport). Because of this, I have placed focus on understanding my fellow teammates and working with their personalities rather than around. That type of connection has led to a friendly yet burning passion that has pushed each one of us to new heights.
Beginning sophomore year I also adopted powerlifting to my lists of sports. Within that year I managed to qualify for State while remaining to train for Track and Colorguard. This trend remained in the junior year but was cut short due to the pandemic. This sport has helped to build healthy habits for dealing with stress as well as mental strength in all situations.
Mental strength, resilience, and acceptance for growth are three things everyone needs in order to be successful. I advocate challenging yourself whether that be through Advanced Placement courses, adding a sport to your routine, or striving for that leadership position. Though it might be challenging (it should be), it's definitely rewarding; you'll leave a better person.
