- 2022 Highlights
Personal Statement
My passion for running began in 7th grade when I decided to do cross country and long distance track. I am now I’m a junior in high school and looking to accomplish more. Every year I grow closer to the sports and learn more about them. Running pushes me to do better and finish through, and not give up.
I hope to preform better the next two years in high school sports wise, and academically.
Running makes me who I am. No one in my family ran/runs cross country, so to be the first and only one, I get a lot of attention and support from it which helps motivate me to do better.
This year has been very challenging for me physically and mentally. I hurt my back terribly this summer and had to take it down a notch. As soon as I got into the swing of things, I got a concussion the first week of school and had to sit out a week. Not even five days after that I got covid and missed two weeks. I was devastated and scared. I hated sitting out in cross country and how out of shape I was after sitting out almost a month.
I started off running my first cross country meet of the season with a time of 15:54. I was very proud of myself because I had been through so much. I was so eager and determined to get back into it, no matter how how out of shape I was. No matter how hard it gets, I don’t let anything stand in my way.
Another sport that I have a burning passion for is track. Last year as a Sophomore, I ran the 800 and the 4x4. I had never ran in a relay before nor ran the 400, but I ended up with the fastest leg on my team and we qualified for area in the 4x4. This year as a junior, I qualified for area in the 400m dash. At shamrock, we did not have a track all this season so we really went into every meet just hoping for the best and seeing how much we wanted it . This was my first year running the 400m dash, 200m dash, 100m dash, and sprint relay. I only got to do two track meets before district because I was going to State in powerlifting, but I did what I could to get back and ready for track.
This year, power lifting got introduced to Shamrock High School, so I decided to give it a try. I am in the 97.5lb weight class and qualified for State lifting over 590lbs combing all my lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. The State meet was held in Corpus Christi. Although I bombed out at State in squat and could not move on, I am still very proud of myself for taking on a new sport that just got added to our school and already going to State in the first year of doing a new sport. It is also a huge thing to weigh 97lbs and lift 2-3x as much as I weigh. Powerlifting has changed me completely and opened my eyes on a lot of things. I am so excited for next year, I love this sport with everything in me.
