Being a member of the varsity track team since my freshman year and competing on relays early on and having the chance to be part of district championship teams, competing at regionals each year and at the state level, I had to mentally grow up fast. Throughout my high school years I discovered a personal truth, that I have no limitations other than those I choose to impose upon myself. Through injuries and personal setbacks, I continued to fight and push through to improve and excel each year. If I wasn't able to run or train, I pushed and encouraged my teammates to work harder. Everyone recruit brings unique talents, gifts, and abilities and some of mine include my strong will and dedication to get better everyday in everything I do on and off the track. My goal is to pursue a degree in biology as a foundational study/degree that will place me in a position to attend Veterinarian school later on.
When it comes to pursing an opportunity to run at the next level, there's a quote that states, " We'll never know our full potential unless we push ourselves to find it." This quote speaks to me because we are made to maximize our strengths and search deep for our weaknesses that will help us to be well rounded students and athletes. I know I haven't reached my full physical or mental peak in respects to both academics and as an athlete. As a student/athlete on your track team, I plan to be a hard working athlete and a positive influence on the team and a positive role-model in our community as well. Most importantly, I will conduct myself with honor and respect because everything I do on and off the track will reflect not only on myself, but most importantly, my family, my team, coaches, and the academic institution I am representing.
With my senior season cut short and with so much uncertainty I made a decision that I would continue to train daily, follow my normal daily routine and work hard. I had all my plans laid out and personal goals set for my last year, but I was once told, "If you want God to laugh tell him your plans." It hasn't always been easy, but my faith has kept me grounded. Jeremiah 29:11 sates" For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Where ever he leads me or whatever my future holds, rest assured, that I will always be grateful for the opportunity and the gift of considerations and any opportunities to be the best student/athlete I can be.
