My passion for track began when I was in elementary school and continued through middle school into high school. It was during the region track meet when I jumped 16 feet in long jump for the first time, qualifying me for state, that I knew I loved track. I started pole vaulting in October of 2019 when I was 16. My first meet was at the Reno Pole Vault Summit where I jumped 10’8”, only three months after starting. Covid shut down my club only a few months after that, but I continued to work at home. When my team and I were able to vault again, I had a new mindset and determination to work harder than I did before. I continue to work and be a student of the sport to let it shape me into a better person.
The rigorous academic goals I have met, such as being on a mathematical class track that put me in honors classes above my grade level, have taught me that failing does not define my capability, that learning is an endless amount of connections to everything we interact with, and that I can define my success with my own labor, talents, and growth. Using my intellect to succeed in advanced classes of all subjects has opened my eyes to the small things that make a difference, topics that I never thought to understand, and a passion to pursue my own goals in my career.
