Before I started running track, I was a competitive gymnast for six years. After running on my middle school's track team during my final year of gymnastics, I surprised myself with my ability to compete in another sport. I left gymastics for soccer, basketball and track upon entering high school, but my drive to perform well and work hard perservered. Throughout high school I have balanced track and soccer with a heavy involvement in musical performance while maintaining a high GPA and cofounding a diversity club at my school. Above all, track has taught me how to fight through pain and lead a team. My sophomore year, I ran a leg in the 4x100,4x200, and 4x400, all of which we won at state. It was an unforgettable experience to anchor the 4x400 meter relay that lead my school to breaking the WIAA record for most consecutive state championships in 2019. Moving forward, I am interested in studying neuroscience, vocal performance and foreign language. Before this summer, I hadn't considered running track in college, but after practicing with my club team amidst the COVID-19 outbreak I have begun to learn to love the process of improving, embracing the pain that comes with progress. I intend to pursue an academically challenging course of study, but I don't want to leave my competitive athletic experience in high school.
