Douglas College T...My passion for volleyball started when I was 12 years old. Ever since, my love for the sport has grown immensely. The first time I touched a volleyball, I knew I wanted to go all the way, playing to post-secondary to then go play with the greats in Europe. To me volleyball is more than just a game, it is a lifestyle. I push myself both mentally and physically to be the best on and off the court. As well, I’m pushed to be the best by my coaches. The wicked plays where I absolutely crush it into the court are amazing. But what I really love is making the plays that will win us the point without having to crush the ball every time. I always look at the other team, find their strengths and weaknesses, then work with my team to outplay them. Thinking outside the box and seeing one of my team’s plan work is what really gets me pumped!
The commitments and skills I have been taught in volleyball I also use in my academic life. Volleyball is a large part of my life and also being enrolled in high academics can often get quite overwhelming. I see it as a challenge and make plans to put my best foot forward in both school and volleyball without prioritize one over the other. If I get a bad mark on a test I will make the appropriate changes to do better on the next one, just as I would in a game. I have learned from important role models in my life to be kind, always lend a hand and never assume where someone is coming from. I use that in day-to-day life as well as in a game. I always try to be honest, respectful and admirable. The most important part of growing as a student-athlete is rest. One cannot grow without resting, recuperating and healing. I am excited to see where my academic and volleyball career leads me in life!
