Personal Statement
Hi! My name is Malia Turner, and I am a 2026 libero from Flagstaff, AZ. Something that has always had a huge impact on my life is family. I have always been incredibly inspired by my mom, dad, and sister to work hard at the things I want to accomplish. I first started volleyball when I was seven years old, and I immediately loved it. Being a part of many teams has given me great friendships and taught me how important it is to trust one another, and to always have a good mindset both on and off the court. I have also learned how important hard work is, not only through the tough situations, but also through the easy situations as that is what leads you to improvement.
I have always found academics really important, so my goal for high school is to graduate with an associate degree to get myself a head start on college. I am currently taking all of the advanced classes that are offered for freshman, such as Advanced Chemistry, Honors Humanities, and AP Human Geography, and I am also a part of Student Council. As for college, I have always wanted to become a doctor, so my hope is to attend a college with a great medical program.
I have been playing volleyball for eight years, five of which have been club. Also, I just recently completed my high school season where I played as a starter on varsity. I would like to think of myself as hard worker and will always come to a team with the mindset that I will work as hard as I can to improve myself and to help my team improve. My dream is to play as a D1 libero in college, and I am constantly motivated by what my future holds both academically and as a volleyball player.
