Personal Statement
My name is Lexi Arena, and I have been playing volleyball at the competitive level since I was 12 years old. I am currently a junior at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, and hold a 4.0 GPA. My main position is outside hitter, but I can also play opposite, middle, and back row defense. I am very coachable and welcome constructive criticism to make me a better athlete come the collegiate level.
If I could describe myself in one word, it would be: determination. I have experienced numerous ups and downs throughout my volleyball career, but the one thing that has kept me going is the belief I have in myself and the drive to never give up, no matter how hard the situation may be. I constantly push myself in practice and on the court during tournaments to become better than I was the previous night or match. This goes along with the philosophy of my favorite athlete, Derek Jeter, when he said, "There may be people that have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do."
This year I decided to not play on my high school team, and instead, chose to focus on improving my skill level to prepare me for my club season by taking up small group training, private lessons, and weight training. By doing all of this, I have built up my mental and physical stamina, which has helped me on and off the court.
My aspiration for the future is to play at the competitive collegiate level, while majoring in Marine Biology. With the tremendous support I have received from my family and coaches, along with having a love for the game, I hope to bring my determination and dedication wherever I choose to continue my academic and volleyball career.
