Personal Statement
My overall goal is to compete in volleyball at the college level while earning a degree in animal science or zoology. I know that I would be a great asset to your team as well as your college. During high school I competed on three different varsity sports teams; lettering in volleyball, soccer and beach volleyball. In addition, I played club volleyball, maintained over a 4.0 GPA each year, and involved myself in several clubs both inside and outside of school. I demonstrate exceptional character and leadership skills both on and off the court. I am a team player through and through, and I am always there as an encouraging voice.
Most people would say juggling as many activities as I do is a lot to handle, but I have one more added “difficulty” that most other teens do not have to deal with. I have Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) which is an autoimmune disease that affects my pancreas, as well as most aspects of my life. I was diagnosed in 2013 when I was just 9 years old. There is no cure but I can do the same things as everyone else. Even though I have to manage my T1D every day, I still compete in athletics at a high level. I aspire to continue my athletic career at the collegiate level. While having T1D is not something easy to deal with, it has pushed me even more to prove to myself and others that I can do anything.
I have been playing volleyball for approximately 4 years and have played club for 3 seasons. In the short time that I have been playing, I have found a passion for this sport whether playing it on the court or in the sand. I continually apply the critiques and corrections coaches give to me in order to improve myself and help my team.
