Personal Statement

Ever since I was 4 years old and joined the neighbourhood Little League T-ball team, I have played sports.  For many years, I competed in softball, swimming, basketball, volleyball and even dance.  Being a multi-sport athlete has shaped my love of competition of all sports and my personal drive to always be improving my own abilities while being a key member of the team.

From the moment I started playing volleyball in Grade 5, I fell in love with the intensity and camaraderie of the game! Something I love about the sport is supporting each other through every victory and setback. I am a cheerful and encouraging teammate and it’s very important to me to always be coachable, open to feedback and excelling.

Watching college volleyball has been a big part of my volleyball journey as these top women volleyball players have inspired me to want to follow in their footsteps.  Playing at the elite levels of volleyball in college is my goal and something I will continue to work hard to achieve.

Additionally, I am seeking an academically rigorous college environment that will challenge me to grow intellectually and personally.  My grandfather was a Professor at a Canadian University and he always advised me to not just build my body but also build my mind; to seek an education which would allow me to understand the world around me and provide the foundation for my future.

I am also a violist in my high school orchestra.  Music, hanging out with my family and friends and snuggling with my cats brings me a lot of joy outside of volleyball.  I also like to volunteer with the younger kids at the Junior School, helping with sports, art and reading programs.

All in all, I am a high achieving, passionate person who is ready to take on the challenges of college volleyball while pursuing my academic and athletic dreams.  I will bring my dedication, hard work, team spirit and sense of humour to the team.  Thank you for your consideration.

Sessions will also include bodyweight strength and conditioning instruction. The primary purpose of the program is to teach the fundamental movement patterning and technical skill development which sometimes falls between the cracks as athletes progress in the sport. The UBC coaching staff will be leading the training. UBC head coach Doug Reimer and assistant coach Jodi Zbyszewski will be providing their coaching expertise and especially helping with positional development. As part of the program we will periodically include other components of UBC’s varsity athletic program with possible input from our sports nutritionist, sports psychologist and regular input from our UBC strength & conditioning staff.
