Lauren Chaney '16 Recruiting Profile

After shooting competitive archery on the west coast for several years (winning multiple state and national titles and holding a state record), I decided to challenge myself by going from an individual sport to the team sport of volleyball, and it became my new passion.  I began to play on a club team in 7th grade, practiced an average of 10-12 hours a week, and was able to make my 8th grade volleyball team.  Knowing what it takes to be competitive, I knew that this was just the beginning of a long journey.

I continue to work beyond my expected practice times to help improve myself, in addition to helping others become better players, athletes, and ambassadors of the sport.  I am in my 6th year playing Club Volleyball,  and 3rd year playing both at the Varsity level and on an 18s team.  Besides club and school, I also spend the summers improving my vertical, serving, hitting, and stamina by participating in sand training as well as sand and grass tournaments.

I am a respected leader both on and off the court, taking my role as Captain to encourage and compliment others on their achievements, regardless of what side of the net they are on.  Evidence of this came this last year when I received Honorable Mention in the Pioneer Valley League, and All League this year.  I have also been given the honor of being elected as Class President all four years of high school, taking responsibility for various school events like Homecoming, Prom, fundraising, community service, and numerous class competitions, in addition to maintaining a 3.87 GPA and staying in the top 8% of my class.

My goal is to play volleyball at the college level, where I know I will be an asset to the team and community.  I commit myself completely to each challenge, and I am eager to continue my journey of exploring new educational and athletic opportunities.
