As young as eleven years old, all I ever wanted to do was play volleyball. But ate age eight, I became the second parent to my four younger brothers and sisters and lived in an area that was gang infested with crime and substance abuse. I met a young lady who later on not only became my inspiration but also became my godmother. It is because of her I was able to play club and high school volleyball. Through her financial, emotional, transportation, educational, and life opportunities and support, I have been given the ability to not only play volleyball but the opportunity to see a better life that I never thought I could have.
Being able to see that I can do anything through hard work and resilience, I am determined more then ever to attend college and represent my school as a volleyball athlete. I have a passion for criminal justice and child development; with that being said, I want to enter the Criminal Justice program for my undergrad with a minor in Child Development or Child Psychology, and then enter a Forensic Psychology program for my graduate program. Through these educational studies, I am determined to become an FBI agent who specializes in the field of forensics and create mentor program with at-risk youth who can learn about the criminal justice field.
I always believed that every athlete should continue to have goals no matter what. As a varsity and club player, my next goal is to go undefeated in my senior year and get noticed for a college spot. My goals will continue to grow in becoming a starter, and then becoming the Defensive Player of the year and so on. I welcome new drills and game situations so I can become a better player, I contribute my positive attitude to the game and my teammates no matter the score, I am a leader on and off the court during and after season, and I am very determined to keep learning and playing volleyball as long as I can. As an athletic scholar, I have learned to work hard in anything I commit and set my mind to: I have continued to balance a 3.3 GPA, volunteer at my local park 10 hours a week, work 25-30 hours a week at a fast food restaurant, play club and high school volleyball, and being the second parent to my four brothers and sisters.
