8/24 Queens of th...Hi Coaches! My name is Sienná and I grew up in Palm Desert, Ca. Since middle school, I have dreamed of becoming a plastic surgeon. When I become a doctor, I looked forward to a very rewarding career. While working toward my career goals in college, I look forward to continuing playing volleyball at a high level.
My volleyball journey started mildly with my dad coaching me on the basics. I eventually went to summer camps and started playing club volleyball when I was 9 years old. I played club for two years and when the pandemic hit, like others, it was a challenge for anyone to play competitively. So I continued training with my Dad and playing with friends and coaches outdoors. Then, once the pandemic restrictions eased up, I returned to club volleyball in eighth grade. This is when I found my passion to improve athletically.
In my freshman year, I played JV volleyball, varsity basketball, and varsity beach volleyball. I took club season off my freshman year to play varsity basketball and varsity beach volleyball, it was very rewarding. Summer programs before my sophomore high school season started, and I began to realize my athletic ability on the volleyball court, and I rightfully made the JV team again. I kept progressing with my skills and in the gym, leading into club season. I chose to not return to my varsity basketball team and instead play for the 16 premier team. This club season is when I truly pushed myself, and I got to a level that I could have never imagined a few years prior. My motivation to improve has continued to grow. I work out with a private trainer 4-5 days a week after school, before club practice, and after beach practice. I also attend private skills training every weekend (2.5 hour drive one way) for the Libero position with well known trainer Chris Austin.
A good candidate for a teammate is a leader, supportive, and hard-working for themselves and the team. I have had leadership experience throughout my life, from officer positions in student council programs at school to officer positions in clubs and volunteering. I believe I am supportive since my peers tell me so, and I even won a "Loving and Compassionate" award at my school that people in my class had to vote on. Finally, to be dedicated to a team, one has to work hard for themselves to be excellent for the team. This means putting in the extra work, caring for oneself mentally and physically, and much more. I have done this and continue doing it daily for my teams.
This is what separates me from most athletes. I have the drive and dedication to put in the extra hours to make myself better as both a player and a person. My motto in life is "Say yes," which I believe has helped me have the ability to expand my willingness to do things that most wouldn't.
