My name is Sarah Castillo and I am 17 years old. I am currently taking classes for 11th grade and at the same time I am currently enrolled in a pharmacy technician program. I say that I got the love from volleyball passed down to me from my mother, she played on the national team in Venezuela. I've been playing volleyball for 3 years now and every time I pick up a ball it’s like I fall in love all over again. One of my greatest achievements in volleyball is that my freshman year I did not make the team, but that did not stop me, it made me want to get better so I joined a volleyball club with a developmental program. I tried out again my sophomore year, and made the JV team as a middle hitter and was moved up to varsity half way through the season as a defense specialist; I got MVP that year for the JV team. The club season of my sophomore year I decided to learn the setter position but had to move to middle blocker because of the lack of hitters and defense on the team. Junior year in high school I played defensive specialist and libero, I got the most improved award for the varsity team. Now for club I am learning more in depth the position of setting, but I play all around so my coach can count on me for any position. Some of my goals for this season is to be mentally prepared before I step in the gym and to be confident the whole time. My long term goals are playing volleyball at a collegial level and later on playing beach volleyball professionally. Volleyball is not the only important factor when it comes to which school to choose, but also if they support my major of study which is Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapy focused on athletes.
I feel that I would be an asset to anyone’s team because I am a hard worker, I play and practice very hard. But I also believe in the team work and the importance of every person’s role in the team.
